Eric Hulett has litigated and tried a variety of cases in state and federal courts and is licensed to practice before the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals, the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of West Virginia, and the District of Columbia.

Construction Project Disputes & Litigation
A focus of Mr. Hulett’s practice involves advising construction industry clients, whether owners, general contractors, architects, engineers, or others.

  • Evaluation and analysis of construction contracts and risk management issues.
  • Aggressive, efficient, goal oriented litigation of construction disputes, whether in state court, federal court, or arbitration.

Professional Liability Defense
Defense of architects, engineers, physicians, lawyers, and other professionals is a significant.aspxect of Mr. Hulett’s practice. The insights gained from defending professionals in various fields proves useful in advising clients on solutions in the larger litigation and risk management context.

General Defense Litigation
The defense of individuals and corporations against lawsuits and claims is a major portion of Mr. Hulett’s practice. He has defended numerous civil actions involving:

  • Construction litigation
  • Premises liability
  • Deliberate intent injury
  • Automobile negligence
  • Trucking negligence

Insurance Coverage Litigation
Mr. Hulett’s practice also focuses on the "first party" defense of insurers, primarily involving:

  • Evaluation of claims
  • Coverage opinions
  • Litigation of coverage or evaluation claims
  • Defense of extra-contractual or "bad faith" claims

Mr. Hulett’s experience and familiarity with insurance law and issues also contributes to the rest of his practice, due to the pervasive influence of insurance in nearly all civil litigation.

PROFESSIONAL AND CIVIC ASSOCIATIONS

Mr. Hulett is a member of the ABA Construction Law Forum, ABA Tort & Insurance Law Section, ABA Litigation Section, Defense Research Institute, and the West Virginia Defense Trial Counsel. Mr. Hulett also serves as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Berkeley County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

EDUCATION

Mr. Hulett received his law degree from West Virginia University College of Law and his undergraduate degree in philosophy from Virginia Tech. He has also served as an adjunct professor in legal studies at the College of West Virginia.
