Ms. Curry joined Steptoe & Johnson in 2001 in the firm’s Charleston office.  Ms. Curry focuses her law practice in the areas of motions and appellate litigation, insurance coverage and defense, and general litigation.  

AREAS OF CONCENTRATION
         
Motions and Appellate Practice
Legal research and writing and the preparation of dispositive motions and appellate briefs are a major portion of Ms. Curry’s practice.  Ms. Curry is a member of the firm’s Appellate Practice Group, which specializes in advising clients on appellate matters.  She has handled a variety of litigation and appellate issues in state and federal courts including rules of civil procedure, removal, default judgment, civil tort liability, governmental immunity, commercial and banking disputes, property and mineral law, insurance coverage, bad faith law, extraordinary remedies, workers’ compensation, employment discrimination, and professional liability.  Ms. Curry is the co-author of the 2005 and 2007 West Virginia Practice Handbook, West Virginia Appellate Procedure.  

Insurance Coverage and Defense
Ms. Curry represents insurance companies in first party claims.  This work includes uninsured/underinsured motorist claims, coverage opinions, claim evaluations, and "bad faith" litigation.  Ms. Curry has authored articles for Steptoe & Johnson’s IFPAC Newsletter, Insurance Law Update.

General Litigation
Ms. Curry handles a variety of litigation issues in state and federal courts including personal injury, property damage, construction litigation, governmental immunity, school and grievance law, commercial and banking disputes, mineral law, employment discrimination, and professional liability.  Ms. Curry has conducted in-house associate training sessions on service of process, default, and removal.

PROFESSIONAL AND CIVIC ASSOCIATIONS

Ms. Curry is a member of the West Virginia Bar Association, the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia, the United States District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. 

EDUCATION

Ms. Curry received her law degree from West Virginia University College of Law.  Ms. Curry was awarded a position on the Appellate Moot Court Board in recognition of her appellate advocacy skills.  She also was selected for the National Appellate Moot Court team and the Marilyn E. Lugar Trial Association.  Ms. Curry received her Bachelors and Masters degrees in history from Marshall University.  Ms. Curry attended undergraduate school on a debate scholarship and was inducted into the history honors society, Phi Alpha Theta.  She was elected to
