Greg Goodykoontz has been practicing more than twenty years in the area of civil litigation with Steptoe & Johnson. Mr. Goodykoontz has tried a wide variety of jury and non-jury cases and has briefed and argued appeals in both the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

Toxic and Mass Torts
Mr. Goodykoontz is a member of Steptoe & Johnson’s Toxic and Mass Tort Team and has extensive litigation experience in representing individuals and corporations in West Virginia. He has defended corporations and employers in premises and deliberate intent claims that are based on chemical exposures. Mr. Goodykoontz has also developed a specialty in cases alleging exposure to mold, asbestos, benzene silica, mixed solvents and aromatic hydrocarbons. He also has defended cases seeking damages for medical monitoring and fear of future disease.
Insurance Litigation
Mr. Goodykoontz has developed a specialty in counseling and defending various local and national insurance carriers in alleged violations of West Virginia’s Unfair Trade Practices Act and “bad faith” claims. These cases were derivative and direct claims from automobile, fire and casualty, automobile and CGL policies.

Nursing Home Litigation
Mr. Goodykoontz also defends nursing homes in a variety of legal claims including violations of federal and state law, common law negligence and wrongful death actions. He has represented nursing homes owned and operated by corporations, not-for-profit organizations and benevolent societies. Mr. Goodykoontz has developed a specialty in defending cases based on violations related to Medicare and Medicaid regulations.
