Jacquelyn J. Core joined Steptoe & Johnson in August of 1998. She focuses her practice in the areas of long term care litigation and labor and employment litigation. She co-chairs the firm’s Long Term Care Industry Team

Ms. Core is admitted to practice in the State of West Virginia, before the Federal District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of West Virginia, before the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, and before the Supreme Court of the United States of America.
PROFESSIONAL AND CIVIC ASSOCIATIONS
Ms. Core is a member of the Monongalia County Bar Association, the West Virginia State Bar, the Defense Research Institute, and the Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia. She is a board member of Arts Monongahela, a community organization which promotes public appreciation and support of the arts and helps to link the arts with economic development, and she co-chairs the Arts Monongahela wine auction committee. She is also active with the West Virginia Health Care Association.
Ms. Core has volunteered with the Monongalia County Teen Court and the Rape and Domestic Violence Information Council and has served as a member of the Pleasant Day Schools Parent Advisory Board. Ms. Core is a past President of the P. Pendelton Kennedy Chapter of Trout Unlimited and the West Virginia State Council of Trout Unlimited. She sat on the executive board of the Laurel Run of Big Sandy Watershed Association, and was a member of the Allegheny Power Advisory Board for the Big Sandy Watershed. She remains active in Trout Unlimited. Ms. Core is also the prior owner and executive producer of "The Game Players," a theatrical company.
PRESENTATIONS AND PUBLICATIONS
Ms. Core has authored multiple articles for the Annual Defense Trial Counsel Notebooks, The West Virginia Employment Law Letter, Steptoe & Johnson’s Labor Department Newsletter, and Steptoe & Johnson’s IFPAC Newsletter, Coverage. She also regularly authors special education e-lerts.
Ms. Core has presented at the Steptoe & Johnson Labor Institutes and Fall Labor Seminars/Regional Labor Institutes, at Board of Risk and Insurance Management seminars, and to private companies and widely diverse organizations regarding a variety of employment and litigation issues including but not limited to civil tort liability, defensive documentation, civil trial practice, sexual harassment and abuse, workplace investigations, and employee record issues. She has also presented at the West Virginia Health Care Association 2007 Annual Meeting.
EDUCATION
Ms. Core is a National Member of the Order of the Barristers which recognizes excellence is courtroom advocacy. She received her legal education at West Virginia University College of Law, where she served as Associate Chief Justice of the Appellate Moot Court Board. She was a member of the National Appellate Moot Court Team and was awarded "Best Oral Advocate" for her participation in the Baker Cup appellate competition. She was a member of the Marilyn E. Lugar Moot Trial Association. Ms. Core received her undergraduate Political Science degree from West Virginia University summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, with departmental honors when she was also inducted as a charter member of the Order of Augusta. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in Human Geography at West Virginia University under the direction of Dr. Robert Hanham.
