Leslie Miller-Stover joined Steptoe & Johnson immediately following law school in 2001 and practiced in the firm’s Charleston, West Virginia office. Ms. Miller-Stover left the firm in 2006 to work in-house for a large natural gas producer in their land department. Ms. Miller-Stover rejoined the firm in June of 2007. She concentrates her practice in the areas of mineral law, commercial transactions, real estate, and bankruptcy-debtor/creditor relations.

AREAS OF CONCENTRATION

Mineral Law
Representing coal mining companies and oil and gas producers, Ms. Miller-Stover has handled matters involving mineral acquisitions including mining operation acquisitions from bankruptcy debtors, title examinations, lease negotiations, drafting joint operating and other related agreements, coordinating and performing due diligence, and title defect curative work.

Real Estate
Ms. Miller-Stover's practice also covers performing commercial title examinations, the preparation of title opinions, acquisitions, financing, commercial loan closings, and commercial leasing. Ms. Miller-Stover also works with title insurance companies and their customers on commercial real estate projects.

Banking
Ms. Miller-Stover has represented lenders and borrowers in matters including loan structuring and documentation.

Corporate
Ms. Miller-Stover is experienced in the formation of business entities and governance issues associated therewith.

Bankruptcy
Ms. Miller-Stover has represented creditors in various aspects of bankruptcy cases and litigation. She has represented creditors in Chapter 7, 11 and 13 cases on numerous bankruptcy and state law related issues. In addition, Ms. Miller-Stover has been directly involved in work-out strategies for creditors both in bankruptcy and non-bankruptcy situations.

PROFESSIONAL AND CIVIC ASSOCIATIONS

Ms. Miller-Stover is a member of the West Virginia State Bar. She is a past board member of the West Virginia Wellness Council and currently serves on the board of the Southern Jackson County Public Service District. She is also a member of the American Association of Professional Landmen.

EDUCATION

Ms. Miller-Stover received her law degree from West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia, where she graduated as a member of the Order of the Coif. During her time at West Virginia University’s College of Law, Ms. Miller-Stover was awarded the Patrick C. Duffy Award for character and leadership; had her article titled "Employing Common Sense in West Virginia Trial Courts: Juror Note-Taking and Jurors Questioning Witnesses" published in the West Virginia Law Review; performed research for Professor Charles DiSalvo on the law career of Mohandas K. Ghandi; served as a civil procedure tutor; and served as Managing Editor for the West Virginia Law Review.

Ms. Miller-Stover has a Master of Business Administration which she received from West Virginia University in 1993. She also graduated from West Virginia University in 1992, magna cum laude, with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.

EXPERIENCE

Ms. Miller-Stover worked from March 2006 to June 2007 as a landman at a large natural gas production company where her primary responsibility was coordinating the title clearing process for the West Virginia development team.

Ms. Miller-Stover, prior to attending law school, worked in Charleston, West Virginia as an account executive and later as an account manager for the health maintenance organization, Carelink Health Plans.
